Our mission is to provide excellence in community-based health care that increases access, reduces health disparities, and improves health outcomes.

EXCELth, Incorporated is a private, not-for-profit organization founded in 1991, governed by a consumer board of directors.  EXCELth is funded as a Community Health Center by the Bureau of Primary Health Care, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and is designated as a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC). EXCELth operates the EXCELth Primary Care Network. This health center receives HHS funding and has Federal Public Health Service (PHS) deemed status with respect to certain health or health-related claims, including medical malpractice claims, for itself and its covered individuals.

Prior to 2005, the EXCELth Primary Care Network operated sites in New Orleans only. After Hurricane Katrina's devastation, EXCELth enlarged its service area to include Baton Rouge with the purpose of expanding primary care access for persons displaced by the 2005 storms. Today, EXCELth remains in the Baton Rouge area to address the mental health needs of persons who have difficulty getting these services elsewhere due to limited availability of providers or a lack of affordable care.

Presently, the EXCELth Primary Care Network includes three fixed health centers and a family dental center serving Orleans Parish and a behavioral health program serving East Baton Rouge Parish.  The goal of these health centers is to be a "medical home" - the provider of choice for area residents, regardless of income and other barriers.

The EXCELth Primary Care Network provides comprehensive services ranging from pediatrics to geriatric care, as well as, behavioral health services, care coordination, social services, dental care, and pharmacy services. A host of other health care and wellness programs complete the service delivery system to ensure quality health care for all.

EXCELth is dedicated to improving the health of underserved communities through the provision of quality, affordable primary care services that includes patients and their families as key players in their health care decisions.
